Vaillant currently describes F75 as a fault where the pressure change is too low when the heating pump starts up. What Does F75 Mean on a Vaillant Boiler?

A Vaillant boiler does more than measure the static pressure shown on its display. When its internal heating pump starts, the boiler expects to detect a small change in hydraulic pressure. That change helps confirm that water is present and the heating circuit is responding to pump operation.

For F75, Vaillant's ecoTEC installation documentation describes the problem as an insufficient pressure jump detected when the pump starts. If the boiler cannot detect that response, it records F75 and may stop normal operation.

In practical terms, the boiler is saying: the pump has been asked to start, but it has not detected the pressure response it expected. That does not tell us which component has failed. It is the starting point for diagnosis.

What Causes the Vaillant F75 Fault?

Vaillant's current guidance identifies several possible causes rather than a single failed component. Correct diagnosis means checking all of them rather than assuming which one applies.

Low Boiler or System Pressure

Vaillant identifies 1-1.5 bar as its normal range. If pressure has fallen too low, there may not be enough water in the circuit to produce the expected response. If pressure keeps dropping, ask why rather than just topping it up.

Air in the Heating System

Common Misconceptions About Vaillant F75

F75 is one of the most misunderstood Vaillant fault codes, largely because it describes a system response rather than a single failed part.

Does F75 Mean My Vaillant Pump Has Failed?

No. A defective pump can cause F75, but Vaillant also identifies low system pressure, air within the heating circuit, a defective water-pressure sensor and wiring or cable-harness faults as possible causes. The pump needs testing before replacement is recommended.

Does F75 Mean the Pressure Sensor Has Failed?

Not necessarily. A pressure-sensor fault is a recognised cause, but F75 only tells us that the expected pressure response has not been detected. That could be because there genuinely was no adequate pressure change, the pump did not create the expected response, there is insufficient water, trapped air interfered with circulation, the sensor failed to measure the response, or the electrical signal did not reach the control system correctly. Can Sludge Cause a Vaillant F75 Fault?

Potentially, but it is important not to oversimplify this. Vaillant's professional documentation tells engineers to check the pump for blockage and assess the heating circuit as part of F75 diagnosis. Contaminated heating-system water can contribute to restrictions or component problems, but F75 itself does not mean the system needs a powerflush. A system flush should be recommended because an engineer has identified contamination or circulation problems, not simply because F75 appeared on the display.

These Vaillant faults are all closely related to water pressure, so they are easily confused. Vaillant currently describes F22 specifically as low water pressure in the system, whereas F75 relates to the pressure response that occurs when the heating pump starts. Its ecoTEC installer documentation separately identifies F73 and F74 as water-pressure-sensor signal faults.
